‘one equal light’
Two of my closest friends from school died early in their lives. They are much missed, will always be missed.
I made this for them. It is called ‘one equal light’ and it is now a permanent part of the beautiful new spaces at St Mary’s Bourne Street in Pimlico in London used by the local community. You can see it from the street or walk down the corridor and see the slight fugitive glow of the leaning gold porcelain that gives an aura to the vessels.
I am not sure how memory and memorial intertwine but sometimes it is worth trying out having a simple place which people move through and that it is enough.
I thought of John Donne: ‘…In that house they shall dwell, where there shall be no cloud nor sun, no darkness nor dazzling,, but one equal light, no noise nor silence, but one equal music..!
Just now remembering them. So sharing this tonight.
